"The great white gorilla god who set a city aflame!"

Global Film Company's first giant monster movie, this film represented a major technological challenge for the studio. From the extensive miniature set design to the building of the gorilla suit itself, the film pushed the boundaries of the studio effects department even as major scenes were rewritten and reordered. The film was a modest success, earning most of its take at drive-ins and grindhouses, but it did wonders for the career of Alice Taylor, who became one of the studio's more prominent faces of the era. Sequels were made, but it would be a while before the franchise really became established.
